I’m going to be launching my own software soon but as far as marketing go for software, what has your sucess been with Google Adwords if you’ve used it? What would standard conversion rates be for downloadable software like yours and ours? I’d love if you could write a blog entry on this. Thanks

Hi Paul,
Thank you for the suggestion. I’ll look into writing an article about my usage of Google Adwords.
Just to give you a quick tip, there is no standard conversion rate, it completely depends on your ads and selection of keywords. For example, I took one single ad and increased my conversion on it from 0.44% to something like 1.62% within a year by just slowly changing it through A/B testing (that’s more than 3x the value).
Also, the better converting the ad, the higher it’s positioning. You have to remember that at the end of the day, Google wants to make the most money it can, and the best way to do this is by using the multiplier of effectiveness * price. To give you a quick example, if you pay $1000 a click but you only get 1/1,000,000 people clicking on it, Google makes $1,000/1,000,000 visitors. Now if you pay $1 a click by get 10% clicking, Google makes $100,000/1,000,000 visitors, or 100 times as much!!! Google will display the second ad much more prominently that the first.
So to conclude, yes, I’ll try to write an article about this in the future, however please note that this is a very huge topic. As well there are no standard conversion rates, it all depends on your effectiveness!
